Permanent Make-up
Permanent cosmetic procedures
Permanent cosmetic makeup is a specialized form of tattooing called micro pigmentation or micro pigment implantation. This demagraphic technique deposits color into the upper reticular layer of the dermis (skin).
How is the procedure performed?
Permanent cosmetic procedures are performed using various devices including traditional tattoo machines amongst other specialized devices. First a client consultation will be performed to evaluate goals and answer questions. The micro pigmentation process usually consists of two to three visits to achieve the desired level of pigmentation, consistency, color and placement.
Who benefits from permanent make-up?
Anyone who is 18 years or older and has normal ability to heal from minor wounds or skin abrasion can benefit from permanent cosmetics. Special consideration under 18 years old for scaring or hair loss with parents present. Interest in this service ranges from people who desire a natural enhancement to their appearance to those allergic or have sensitivities to traditional makeup. It is also beneficial for people who are active in sports like swimming, hiking, biking, tennis, aerobics, etc. In these cases, you won’t have to worry about makeup running off from sweat or having to reapply makeup multiple times a day.
Permanent makeup is especially valuable to people who have difficulty applying their cosmetics from visual and dexterity-related conditions such as macular degeneration, cataracts, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, MS, and stroke survivors.
Are permanent cosmetics really permanent?
These procedures are considered permanent as they don’t wash off, however any applied pigment can fade over time (generally about 2 years) and often requires periodic maintenance referred to as color re-enhancement or color refreshing. Also, during a refresh consult, discussion for new or modified preferences can be implemented.
How long does each procedure take?
The initial procedure generally takes 2 to 2.5hrs as there are photographs that need to be taken, desired design and color to discuss, performing the actual procedure, and discussion about aftercare. Follow-up procedures often take less time than the initial appointment.
Is it painful?
Most people experience some discomfort, however perception of pain is individual and there are topical anesthetics that can be used to minimize discomfort. Please ask your permanent cosmetic professional if you would like to explore these options.
Do the pigments pose allergy problems?
People can develop allergies to anything, however pigment allergies are considered rare. Pigment dye suppliers are required to list ingredients on their labels, so if you have specific allergies feel free to reach out to see if there are any ingredients that may cause you issues.
Do I need a follow-up?
Generally, the permanent makeup takes at least two sessions. The follow-up session is scheduled 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment.
